Mr. DAryel O'Brien died at his residence, Nelson street, Petone, on Thursday, aged 100 years. Mr. Chas. Ahier and Miss Ahicr, who have been on a visit to Jersev during the past fo t v months, will arrive in New Plymouth to-morrow morning bv the Rarawa.
A London cablegram states that Mr. W. Vincent, chairman <jf the Dominions Commission, and Air. Alorlev are retiring on account of ill-health. Sir A. E. Bateman has been appointed a member.
he death occurred at Palmerston Acslmlay of Airs. Dunn, at one time matron of the Addington prison. Deceased came to the Dominion forty years airo in the Isle of the South, in charge of a number of immigrants. Mi. E. K. Skinner, who has been in Australia for some months past in connection with his matnmitis-«ure for cattle. returned to New Zealand on Friday, Mr. Skinner leaves for Dunedin this morning, en route to Sydney.
Mr. F. J. Monat, solicitor, of the Dunedin Land Office staff, will be a candidate for election to the Civil Service Board of Appeal to be constituted under the new Public Service Act. Mr. Monat was chairman of the sub-commit-tee set up by the Dunedin Civil servants to revise the Hon. A. L. Herdman's Public Service Bill when it was before Parliament.
, "^ f ' v ' oc kv cablegram was received on ■Thursday at Auckland of the death ol Commander A. J. Marsack, Boyal Indian Marine, as a result of a motor-car accident. The deceased, who was thirtyseven years of age, was Court officer and naval intelligence officer at Aden, and at the time of his death was on furlough m England. He was a brother of Dr. Marsack, of Remuera, and Mr. Harry Marsack, of Westfield. .
