FARM AND DAIRY.

ROYAL OAK CHEESE FACTORY. A supplier at the present .time supplying Neilson's Royal Oak Cheese Factory at Omata, delivered during October the milk from Jiis f> cows, and. received for milk alone £9 7s lOd or £1 17s 6d,per cow for the month. .When all -ciroumstanees the taken into account this result appears very satisfactory. The farm has an area of 12 . acres'only, of which two acres is closed in for hay crop; one acre is ploughed, and half an'acre is in garden and the house, leaving a total area for grazing of eight and a half acres. This area there is supports 5 milking cows, 1 dry cow springing, 2 horses and 5 young* calves (on the 8 1 /;. acres). A correspondent who forwards us those particulars attributes this 'result first to careful management, of cattle, and the milking of same, and to the fact that the owner has had all his cows come in profit at the proper time, and treated them well. The fann has had two top dressings of basic slag, which lias made the old pasture on this farm brighter and healthier. It had not been re-graxscd for some years. The co'vs are not of a fancy breed, but of only ordinary class, with a touch of Holstein. The .price per lb of butterfat is 14d. and on the whov, which is returned, fire calces are being fed. A little pollard is added, and the animals are in the pink of health and condition. There arc beside the .) calves, four email pigs, also being fed on part of the whey, ({ I hope, concludes our correspondent, 'to give you a still better record of this heul next month, and also of another much larger herd that is grazinn- on a good farm in the Omata district."
