Stratford Show
SKG'XD DAY'S CHEAT EXHIBITION. KKCORD CROWDS. Yesterday was a big (lay for the Stratford A. & P. Association, and the show roistered the high-water mark of attendance'to date. The weather conditions were ideal in the morning, 'but the afternoon was oil the eool side, and clouds loomed threatening in the distance. The Dominion Meteorologist was kind enough, however, to withhold- the rain, wljicii has been so unpleasant at previous "sliov.'.i, and it was announced" in the mil":illn of tlie afternoon iliat more money had been taken at the gates on the second day than 011 the two days at last year's show, the attendance being ostimsttfii :>l aboii! twelve thousand. The special and ordinary trains from north and south were all crowded, ami there must hav;; -fiCOli very few pedple left on thQ faiina. The grounds presented a gay scene, ilags floating over crowded grandstands and the dense throng of people which surrounded the show rings and wound out and round about thy Various displays and side The proprietors of these seeiutd to do good business. and did the usual amount of leather-lunged oratory. As on the first day, every detail of management was carefully attended to, and "it is impossible to lavish too much praise upon the dsn wl)9 dill the organisation and tne work itself. The light, horse classes and competitions were undeniably excellent. Mr. J. C. Montefiore's Lady Aristocrat took many of the honors that had falfcil to Mr. Mason's Zanzibar at Hawera, and Miss May Sole's -Jaeamar also found favor with the judges. Mr. Montefiore's grade Jersey cow Joan was the champion dairy cow. Exhibited twenty-two times as a dairy cow, Joan has scored twenty firsts, five championships, and i two seconds. Xhe management of the ring was an improvement on anything previously seen by even the most hardened competitor, and it ought to be stated as well that the arrangements for the press were really capital.
