1 Extraordinary scenes have occurred at Nanvy. Blion, a brigadier of the gendarmerie, who has been arrested, believ ing a telegram was an order to mobilise, opened instructions. The church bells were rung and the town crier roused. Five thousand men left their beds, and posters were hastily pasted on the walls summoning all between 25 and 45 years of age to join the colors. The reservists left weeping wives and hastened to headquarters. It was five hours before the error was discovered. Meanwhile military telegraphists took possession of the post offices. Sections marched to protect the railways, and patrols hastened to the frontiers.
