CLIFTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

ANNUAL MEETING. The Statutory meeting of the Clifton County Council was held at Waitara yesterday for the purpose of electing a chairman. There were present Crs. Elliott (chairman), O'Sullivan, Hicks, Bower, Jones, Kenninglon and Sander. The present chairman on retiring regretted that he could not see his way on account of pressure of private business to seek re-election, ouneillors were highly eulogistic of C'r. Elliott's services during the preceding year. Crs. Hieks and Kennington were nominated for the position of chairman, the latter being elected, and in returning thanks hoped to worthily fill the position. BRIDGE LOAN. The matter of the bridge loan was informally discussed and it' was resolved that the engineer be instructed to .prepare a schedule of the most urgent bridge works in proportion to the amounts allocated per riding, in accordance with which Mokau will receive £I4OO, Urenui £B6O, Waihi £345, Tikorangi £456, and Ngatimaru £BOB. The tender of Rowan _ and Thomason at 7s Od per yard wag accepted for 220 yards of metal at Tarata. „
