Regarding the appointment of a rearadmiral to the China station, Mr. Pearce considers the suggested interpretation, if correct (that this was because the Australian Admiral would be in charge), very satisfactory to Australia. Referring to co-operation with New Zealand, he says that hitherto only informal semiprivate communications had passed, but | they could expect something more formal shortly.
