NEW ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, Monday. The new Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Rosary, was opened yesterday, three bishops participating. The collection' for the two services was over £IOOO. SLAUGHTERMEN'S DEMANDS. Wellington, Monday. It is rumoured that the Wellington Slaugthermcn's Union intends to cancel its registration under the Arbitration Act and seek for new conditions with the employers. At present the rate paid for slaughtering sheep is 25s per hundred. It is understood the men intend asking for 30s. Something more definite will be known next week. THE AUCKLAND-SYDNEY CABLE. Auckland, Monday. The last length of the Sydney' to Auckland cable was laid yesterday from the steamer Silverton, being landed at Muriwai on the West Coast. The operation was completely successful.
