WORK AND WAGES.

THREATENED SLAnfJITERMEN'S STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press Association. ~ Masterton, Last Night. In an interview with a Wairarapa, Age reporter to-night relative to the threatened cessation of work by the slaughtermen, Mr. J. C. Cooper, managing director of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company, said that the outlook was rather seVious. The men had made demands in the South Island, and a conference had been held which had proved abortive. Mr. Cooper does not think there will be an immediate strike, but he believes that by the cancellation of registration the men intend ceasing work when the awards expire in January next. This will be the height of the season, and an immense injury will be occasioned.
