A pugilistic encounter marked the close of the convention of the American Federation of Labor, at Rochester. Haywood, leader of the Industrial Workers of the World, struck Barnes, manager •of the Presidential Socialistic campaign. The sergeant-at-arms removed Haywood, who broke free and barricaded himself in a laundry. The police quelled the disorder. AMERICAN RAILWAY STRIKE. Received 25, 11.45 p.m. Washington, November 24. The threatened national railway strike has. been averted by the Board of Arbitration granting 30,000 locomotive engineers an increase in wages. The Board advocates the creation of a Federal and State Wages Commission. A THREATENED STRIKE. - . . Sydney, November 25.' Trouble is threatened in the southern collieries over the dismissal of Russell, secretary of the Kembla Miners' Lodge. All the miners will be idle to-morrow to enable an aggregate meeting to discuss the matter. THE MINING CRISIS. Received 25, 11.25 p.m. Sydney, November 25. All the Bouthern mines are idle to-day. The miners purpose an aggregate meeting to discuss the Ruseell case. A resolution has been adopted declaring that he was wrongfully dismissed, and pledging the men to endeavor to secure his reinstatement and an amendment of the industrial law to prevent the discharge of employees without giving a fair reason. All the unions have been asked for support. The threatened crisis has been averted, and the miners will resume work to-morrow.
