Onehunga, Saturday.—Arrived, at 7 a.m., Corinna, from New Plymouth; and at 8.5 a.m., Rarawa, from New Plymouth. THE HAUPIRI. The Haupiri on Saturday loaded a consignment of cheese and a quantity of general cargo for Wellington, and sailed for Wellington.
THE CORINNA. j The Coriiraa arrived from Onehunga j yesterday and to-day will load dairy produce for Wellington. NELSON HARBOR. The increase in the size of steamers j has made Nelson harbor, which was considerably improved but a few years ago by making a new entrance and other alterations, again behind the times. Mr. Holmes, engineer-in-chief to the Marine Department, reports that the entrance and. the berthages need to be deepened and the wharfage extended and wider ed. For the former a new Priestman grab dredge is needed (as no other could work satisfactorily in the exposed entrance), and the total cost is estimated at about £IO,OOO. The Harbor Board has about £SOOO in hand, and the Rail- ] way Department (to which the wharves' belong) promises £IOOO if the berthages are deepened to its satisfaction. A loan of about £4OOO is therefore needed to carry out Mr. Holmes' recommendations, j
JAPANESE TO ENTER NEW ZEALAND TRADE.
It is reported that the Nippon Yusen Kaisha, which at present has a fourweekly service between Japan and Australia, is to replace its' present three vessels (the Yawata, Nikko and Kumaro, vessels of 2000 and 3000 tons net) with steamers of from SOOO to 6000 tons net, and extend the line to New Zealand and Adelaide.
