BOROUGH COUNCIL.
SPECIAL MEETING. A meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held lust night. Cr. Wilson was welcomed to the Council, and was appointed a member of the following committees:—Works, Electric Light, Baths and Tramways. Consent was given to Messrs. Okev Son and Arnold, Ltd., to grant Mr. a! E. Sykes a right of way over part section 005, width to be eight feet clear at the north end and 7ft. 2in, clear at the south end, a plan to the satisfaction of the borough engineer to be first submitted. The Council declined to allow Mr. Sykes to erect a new verandah, 12ft. wide, instead of 15ft., the existing width* of the footpath. The loan proposals, as published, wereappioved, with one or two minor alterations, and steps will be taken to place the question before the ratepayers at the same time as the tram ways "loan is submitted. The Council decided to enforce its bylaw prohibiting horses being driven loosealong the. streets. The question arose out of a letter addressed to the Council by Inspector Tippins, who said complaints were received as to the damage being caused to the footpaths through horses being driven loose to and from paddocks.
