The contract was made entirely in the public interest. THE POOR BOOKMAKER. London, November 22. Justice Rentoul's decision has placed the bookmakers in a quanlary. They are liable to be sued by losers for bets. An appeal is being prepared. LORD DEN-MAN'S EVICTION. London, November 22. The Times says that whatever the rights or wrongs of Lord Denman's eviction, it is not calculated to raise Australia's reputation within the Empire. It declares that Mr. Fisher's attitude was one of unquestionable regret at New South Wales's appearance of discourtesy and disrespect to the King's representative.
