THE I'RiOE 01? BUTTER. By Telegraph -Li-ess Association. Wellington, Thursday. The wholesale distributors to-day reduced the price of butter a halfpenny per pound. The wholesale price is now Is Id firr-l fa-lory brands, Is O'/jd secondary brands. THE LACK OF LABOR. Chvistchurch, Thursday. Referring lo a case heard in the Magistrate's! (Joint yesterday. Mr. C. H. Blaekwcll, chainnan of the Kaiapoi Woollen Company, told a Star reporter that the company had imported hundreds of girls and there had been very few lapses. Latterly it had employed no agents, one of its own stall' engaging la-, hour in England. However, the directors had decided to cease the importation of labour altogether. The difficulty was that the company was unable to secure bands in New Zealand and had had to close the order book- because 'here was a shortage of labour. The girl concerned' in wsterday's case has Men sent back to England to-day at the company's expense.
