South Taranaki generally provides good competition in this class, but the two bad seasons have considerably interfered with the production, and there is every prospect that honey will be dear. Messrs. Penny, Warcup, Rainee, Towler and Squire were the competitors, the former rieing most successful. Mr. Rainee had a nice display. The apiary section of the Agricultural Department had a very attractive exhibit under Mr. F. A. Jacobscn.

DOGS. | The dog section drew good entries, and Stratford and New Plymouth figured will in the prize list. On the whole, the quality could have been improved. Mr. F. Nichols showed the winning greyhound puppy. Mr. C. W. Nicholls (Otakeho) had the best in novice dogs, and Mr. F. M. Doughty (New Plymouth) won in open dogs. Mr. J. Jenkinson (Eltham) '. scored first in puppies. Mr. W. E. Wills (Mokoia) in novice bitches, and Mr. J. D. Graham (Wanganui) t in open bitches. There were only two pointers shown. , English setters filled fairly well, and ', Stratford exhibitors had a god slice of the awards. In puppies under 12 months Mr. T. Kirkwood was to the fore. He ' was beaten in the novice dog class by ; Mr. H. Voyle, of Stratford, and Mr. W. R. Foley, also of Stratford, was third. Mr. Kirkwood's Rack-a-Rock won in open dogs, Mr. Foley being third. Mr. Kirkwood was first unopposed in the [ three classes for bitches. In Gordon setters the same exhibitor showed the ' winning puppy under 12 months, winning | novice dog, winning brace, and second open dog, beaten in this class by Mr. C. Goodson, of Hawera. There was but one Irish setter, one curly-coated retriever, and one Pomeranian. Collies were good. Mr. Leo Sim (Eltham) won in puppy 1 dogs and novice dogs, and was second ' to Mr. J. Wylic (Stratford) in open 1 dogs in the rough-coated section. In 1 smooth-coated collies Mr. P. H. Tocker fArarata) was first in the class under 1 12 hmonths, Miss Carroll (Hawera) and ■ Mr. C. L. Bridges (Aramoho) taking 1 firsts in the other classes. Mr. C. E. ' Seabright (Midhirst) won in open dogs and bitches in the bulldogs. In field spaniels Mrs. L. C. Jennins (Waitara) was the only northern exhibitor, and. she scored four seconds. Mr. W. Storey (Wanganui) and Mr. F. Bond (Wellington) won in Irish water spaniels. Mrs. G. H. Saunders (New Plymouth) won in ■ novice and open dogs, with Pukekura Ginna, with Mr. J. C. Ekdahl , runner-up in each case. Airedale terriers attracted but one exhibitor, Mr. F. F. Newman, of Wellington. In fawn pugs, Mrs. Hazelwood, a Wanganui exhibitor, won in novice dogs, Mr. W. Kerr, of Auckland, in open dogs, with Mrs. Hazelwood second and Mrs. C. Bock, of New Plymouth, third. Mrs. Bock won in bitches under 12 months, and was second to Mrs. J. C. Montefiore (Hawera) in open bitches. Mrs. Montefiore showed the only black pugs. Mr. Kirkwood was first with his sporting team-. SHEEP. Sheep were penned in good numbers and in good condition. Though most of the sections were filled, competition in the various classes was confined to two or three owners. In Lincolns, F. A. Bremer (Okaiawa) was the most successful prize-winner, with three firsts and two seconds, though J. D. Hughes, of Patea, secured the championship for ram, and also one first and second. In Border Leieestcrs. the Department of Agriculture, Monmahaki, was a competitor, securing first and championship for ram of any age. Other prizes were divided between them and Jos. Douthwaite (Fordell) and A. S. Tonks (Hawera). In Romney Marsh there was more competition. J. Forbes (Xormanby) owned the champion ram, and W. Willis the reserve champion. H. P. Best secured champion for ewe, and D. J. Willis reserve champion. In Shropshire Downs, A. A. Piper swept the board. In Soutkdowns, Ellis Bros. (Bulls), Moore Hunter Estate and the Department of Agriculture competed. The former annexed all the championships and eight first prizes. In grade Lincolns Mr. Hugh Middleton was the chief prize winner, Mr. A. S. Tonks doing likewise in grade Border Leieestcrs, and Messrs. J. Forbes and ,1. Blair in Romney Marsh. A. E. and A. Symcs were the principal winners in fat sheep and freezers, ; and the silver cup presented by Levin & Co., which they won last year, becomes their property. Hugh Middleton and ] A. S. Tonks also competed. PIGS. In this section the entries were very poor, considering the importance of this ' animal as a side line to Tarnnaki farm- • ers. The Mental Hospital (Porirua) ( swept the board in Berkshires, obtaining first and championship for both sow and i boar, as well as first for boars under 12 and six months, and sows under 12 and ; six months.
