J CONFERENCE OF PROFESSORS. I By Telegraph—Press Association. i Wellington, Tuesday. A conference of University professors is being held here. The proceedings an; not open to the press. THE WANGANUI SALVAGE CASK < Wellington, Tuesday. Judgment was given to-day in the Wanganui salvage case. The court was of the opinion that when the Wanganui Was sighted by the Kapiti and spoken to her, and when ahe was taken in tow by the Arapawa, she was not in a dangerous position. She was. however, in a more or less dangerous position, and it would have been wrong of the master of the Wanganui to imve refused assistance. Looking at all the circumstances, the court considered it should award £3OO without costs, and deducted £25 for costs to respondent. No pronouncement was made as to what sum should be paid to each vessel, but the court was of opinion that £75 should be awarded to the crew.
