The harbormaster at Karamea informed the Marine Department to-day that the Defender, which is trading between there and Wellington, went ashore yesterday on the North Spit. Nothing is stated as to the possibilities of the vessel floating off. The Defender is a steamer of 100 tons gross, and is in charge of Captain Jamieson. She is owned by the Westland Shipping Company. NAPIER HARBOR. Napier, Last Night. The proposed harbor scheme for Napier advanced a further stage to-day, when the Harbor Board unanimously decided to approve Messrs. Cullen and Keele's (Australian Engineers) report in regard to the inner harbor.
