DISTRICT NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent). WHANGAMOMONA. Tin; many friends of Mr. Free, lately acting , Postmaster at Whangamomona, met to bid him farewell on his departure from Whangamoniona. It was a very pleasant gathering. Mr. McDonald, in proposing the health of the guest, referred in flattering terms to the everready and willing manner in which Mr. Free had carried out his duties as acting Postmaster here. Although pressed by a number of townspeople to accept the permanent position of Postmaster, Mr. Free found it would not suit him at present, he being under orders to proceed to the Soutli Island to a larger office. • The people ' of Whangamomona appreciate having a Post Office under a real Postmaster, and Mr. Tree's successor (Mr. Hatton) was welcomed in good Whangamomona style as their first permanent Postmaster.

WARFA. A special meeting of the Warea Athletic Club was held on Saturday night, but only a few members attended. The date of . the next year's annual sports was fixed for February 20th, 1913. The annual meeting of the Club will be held on December 7th.

The Education Board carpenters have been working at the local school lately doing repairs to the residence and building a wash house and bath room. The weather lately has been very changeable, one day being fine and the next either wet or blowing a cold wind. The local tennis club held a picnic on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the court. The weather was fair during the day, and about sixty persons were present, some coming from Okato. During the day games were played, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. In the afternoon Mr. K. F. Andrews (owing to the absence of Mr. J. Burgess) spoke of the success of the Club during the previous season, and hoped this coming season would prove a more successful one. He then declared the court open. At about foiir o'clock afternoon tea was handed round and much appreciated. I am 1 pleased to report that. Mr. J. Burgess, who has been indisposed for the ' last few weeks, is now on the way to recovery.

Saturday seemed to be a day of accidents. First, as Mr. S. A. Daily, butcher, was near Mrs. Pierson's, the young horse he was driving partly got the blinkers off and cleared out with the cart in spite of the holder, ajid turned over and smashed the cart to pieces. The horse, which had got tangled up in a wire fence, was badly cut.

A Maori at Puniho while cutting a hole in his saddle for a strap, let the knife slip and .badly cut his hand across the back of the thumb and second finger, cutting the sinews and veins. He went straight into town after first aid had been effected.

As Reg. Hill was driving to the Kaihihi factory the horse shied and capsized the cart load of cans over the embankment near the factory. Hill was over the fence and escaped without a scratch, while no milk was lost.

The annual meeting of the Warea Ten-

nis Club was held in' the Hall on Saturday night. A fair number of members were present. It was decided to "shut up shop," and pav a dividend to the members, and hand the balance (about lis) over to the Hall Committee.
