MINING.
TKLLURIDES PROPRIETARY, LTD. At the October meeting of the directors of this company a resolution to seek full protection for the Volunteer and Privateer claims was unanimously carried, and in furtherance of this decision, Mr. '.Moresby, the company's solicitor, attended the Warden's Court at l'aeroa last Wednesday, the 13th inst. In support of his application, lie stated that the company held four claims, and it was their wish to concentrate the whole of the men on the Gordon main level through to the Julia and Queen reefs and then on to the Irvine claim. Mr. J. Williams, the mine manager, was called, and stated that the company was desirous of completing as quickly as possible the Gordon low-level tunnel to the Julia and Queen reefs. The cost would be approximately £3OOO. Fourteen men were at present engaged on the work. The .company had up to the present expended fully ,CIO,OOO on the mine. After hearing the evidence the Warden, All'. V. J. liurgess, granted the application, remarking that the company should be encouraged, as it had stuck well to its work. A well-known expert has stated that in his opinion the Welcome Jack reef is good enough to make the mine a payable proposition. As the George and Corbett's reefs are even still better reefs, witlmul; counting the Mary reef, which is sft wide, and the Julia and Queen reefs, the prospects of the mine look very bright indeed.
