NEW ZEALAND FARMERS' UNION.
TARAXAKI EXECUTIVE MEETING. A meeting of the Taranaki Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at Hawera on Thursday. There were present: Messrs J. Davidson (in the chair), R. Lambie, E. A. Washer, E. Marfell, J. Thomson, E. Maxwell, J. Swindleluirst, I'. Dunn, J. Hunter and J. B. Sim (provincial secretary). Leave of absence was granted to absent members. THE LAND BILL. The Prime Minister, writing in acknowledgment of the executive's congratulations to the Government with reference to the Land Bill, said he appreeitcd very heartily the kind expression of opinion from the Executive. He added: "I am strongly of opinion that the proposals contained in the Bill when passed into law will tend very largely to promote the best interests of land settlement and security of tenure in this Dominion." HANDLING OF MANURES. Further discussion took place with reference to the handling of manures and the weight of bags. On the motion of Messrs Maxwell and Swindlehurst it was resolved that the executive regrets to see that some Chambers of Commerce are advocating that manures be packed in bags of greater weight than 1121b, and the executive strongly support a uniform 1121b bag, with four lugs. LAND TAXATION. The Eltham branch forwarded the following recommendation:—"That it be a recommendation to the Executive from this branch that copies of the Land Taxation Amendment Act pf last session be obtained, and that the matter be fully gone into with a view to further amendment, if necessary, in the direction indicated in the pamphlet." Mr. Maxwell moved that copies of the Lfuid Amendment Valuation Act, and various Acts bearing on the subject be obtained, and that the question be discussed at next meeting. Mr. Dunn seconded the motion, which was carried. FREEZING WORKS. The Eltham branch wrote stating that it was of. opinion that it was more desirable for the farmers in that district to support the present freezing works at Patea that to establish new freezing works. SEED GROWERS' ASSOCIATION. The Eltham branch advised thafc it was in sympathy with a proposal to establish a seed-growers' asseciation under the New Zealand Farmers' Union.—Star. -
