CENTRAL SCHOOL CARNIVAL.

The Central School Carnival which is to be held on the Recreation Ground on Thursday afternoon promises to be quite a unique affair, and it is anticipated that there will be a big influx of country residents that day. The programme will comprise gymnastic, equestrian, military, and calisthenic events, and in addition there will be a poster, fancy dress, and vehicle procession, and the entries range from donkeys to rickshaws. Especially interesting will be the exhibition of free gymnastics by 50 Central School boys, a Maypole dance by 25 Central School girls under Misses Henderson and Ford, and an exhibition of the lance exercise (St. George's Wave) by children specially instructed by Captain Rogers, late Prince of Wales 'Royal Lancers. The High School Cade'ts, who have figured so well on various public parades of late, will give a display of military evolutions under Captain Ryder. Small boys, are also in active training for the sham light—an attack on Roaring Camp by Blazing Arrow, chief of the Midnight Sim—while "Finding the Hidden Treasure" competition ifi said to be something, the. like of which has not before been seen in New Plymouth. There will be children's events without number, and numerous stalls. Music will be supplied by brass and siring bands and gramophones.
