THE GAS BILL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, November 14. Owing to a Ministerial statement that the amendments proposed by the Council in the Gas Bill are unlikely to be accepted, the iJas Company's Employees' Union has again resolved that a secret ballot on the question of striking for one shilling increase be held. At a meeting of the Select Committee enquiring into the improvements at Parliament House, Mr. Speaker Willis presented documents covering recommendations on the subject, leaving his private secretary to read them. Some members objected to Mr. Willis being represented by proxy. Mr. Ex-Speaker McCort is resigning as a protest. He informed interviewers that he resented Mr. Willis's high and mighty actions, which were calculated to belittle members of the committee. Melbourne, November 14. The House held a protracted sitting on the estimates of eleven hours. A wrangle occurred as to whether the time occupied in ringing bells was included in the half hour members were allowed for speeches. It was finally decided in the affirmative.
