A cablegram from Washington states that it i.s reported that the Hon. James Bryce, British Ambassador, has resigned and is returning to England, Miss Rosina Buekmann, the wellknown New Zealand singer, who arrived in Loudon a month ago, is 0 n a concert tour with Mr. John .McCormack of Ireland and .the English provinces. Mr. Astbury has not recovered his health. He recently underwent an operation lor appendicitis, but lie is still not quite right and yesterday morning went into a private hospital for further treatment, says the Eltham . Argus. Mr. W. H. Gould, at one time sole teacher at Waione, and afterwards for a number of years headmaster at Pongaroa, but now first assistant at Te Aro school, Wellington, has been appointed to the position of Principal of the Royal College and Director of Education at Tonga. Mr. Gould takes up his new duties early next year.
The Bishop of Kimberley (South Africa) is vory proud of being a New Zealander. So he has informed the Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Crossley) in a d* llancl ' writer is the Right Rev. G-ore Brown, and lie is a son of the first Governor of New Zealand. His letter states, inter alia- "All the young New Zealander* whom I met. out here seemed to mo to hp virile honourable men. My parents always spoke of New Zealand as a colony of the first quality. So it has been a very <reat happiness to know that, at the'time of my conseciation, T was being rememed at the altars of Auckland."
