i| Troiii Our Resident Reporter. STRAY PARAGRAPHS. id. . A senior cadet was complaining the other day that lie seemed to get no credit for attending parades regularly His reward was not only in the satisfaction of having given his services as demanded by his country, but also iii the fact that he will not lie in the bunch of cadets to face 'the Magistrate shortly to explain and be punished for non-at-tendance, at parades. Judging by the parade states, it is time both Territorials and cadets woro "brought up with a round turn.", ■ , "Our Regiment" invades Eltliam to- . night, and New Plymouth on Wednesday week. "Our Regiment-" is a well organised farce, and it is bound to give a good account of itself. The co-op. men are being given their _ summer vacation, and numbers of them are in town. There's a certain first-class smoking car on this section of railways, and all regular travellers know it. Windows and doors rattle infernally, pd many smokers won't travel in it. A well-known regular traveller advises that the best way to get a quiet ride in this relic is for passengers to hold a window each, and to tell off a man to choek each door with his foot. Mr. W. B. Fearon leaves for Wangannui this afternoon to attend the Waj nganui show. An Inglewood settler had a couple of heifers mysteriously killed last Thursday night, presumably by lightning. BUSINESS NOTICE. Furniture is a necessity. But there is no necessity to. pay high prices for it when Messrs. G. W. and H. Drake, of Inglewood, specialise in good furniture r at high prices. Inglewood farmers, or many of them, will be spending part of the "20th" cheque in carpets, linoleums, mats, chairs, tables, or some other kind of furniture, and to make the money go farthest should invest it at this popular furnishing house, next Dr. Gault's, Inglewood. _ . i * BERNARD'S PICTURES j The present programme, which commenced its season last night, is strong in educational value, and the trio, "In and Around Jerusalem," "Ancient Delhi," and ''Microscopic Pond Dwellers," make a successful appeal to the Stratford publie. The pictures of historical interest, and the views of Jerusalem, in particular, are excellent in every respect. Nature study films are highly popular and instructive, and it is seldom that such a wonderful picture as the microscopic study of the little pond-dwellers has j ever been produced. Other pictures are "Dupin Goes Mountaineering," "Trail of ' Gold," "The Forgotten Dancing Shoes," ''Constable Smith and the Magic Baton" and "Sergeant White's Peril." Besides , these the "Temporary Truce" will be screened. Thr> film pictures Mexican Jim, a product of a western mining tour. He quarrels with- Jack Hardy, a young , prospector. Jack gives Mexican Jim the ' walloping of his life, amid the laughter of the whole town. Jim carries off Jack's wife, and leaves notes everywhere to the effect that the joke is now on the other side. Jack follows hot on the trail, and a fight ensues. Indian braves on the warpath turn up, and the two men comj bine against a common enemy. Illustrated songs, .direct from America, were a feature of the programme, rendered by Miss Eileen Bernard and Mr. Will Diamond. ~ I
