AUCKLAND MATCHES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The second round of the district cricket championship was continued today on damp wickets. North Shore with 158 and 74 for two wickets beat University, 94 and 134; Parnell 221 and 193 for three wickets beat Grafton 173; Fden 221, beat Ponsonby 140, and 87 for three wickets. The highest scorers of the afternoon were E. Horspool (Grafton) 40, Sommerville (Parnell) 138, Cummings (Eden) 114. Orliff (Parnell) took six wickets for 05 runs. LAW v. UNITED SERVICE. Pine weather again favoured the cricketers, both at New Plymouth and l'nglewood. Playing on the Recreation Ground, United Service easily defeated Law by three wickets and 30 runs. Law batted first, Lash and Bewley opening. Bewley, who was unwell, succumbed with only two runs to his credit, and Lash and Lawrey struck lip a partnership, the second wicket falling at 33. Greatbatch then went in. He survived several of his side, the third wicket falling for 40, the fourth for 40, and the fifth for 47. Here the procession ended, 103 being .registered by the time the sixth wicket fell. Most of these Tuns were notched by Greatbatch, who contributed 84 before he was bowled by Bain. His tally included two sixes and seven boundaries. Besides Lash and Greatbatch, Lawrey and A. Anderson were the only players who secured double figures. Anderson hit out freely while hei lasted, his score of seventeen including two sixes. The "tail" failed signally to wag. Osborne and Bain 1 opened for Service, and a splendid inn-; ings was the result. They severely punished the opposition trundlers, and back- j od by Osborne, Bain scored very freely, eleven boundaries falling to his lot. He also hit two sixes. When 85 he was caught near the eastern boundary by Greatbatch, The first wicket thus fell : for 117. Mackay took his place. Osborne although not securing many runs continued to bat with ease, and after batting for 80 minutes was bowled by Greatbatch, with 28 runs to his credit. The othqr batsmen kept their end of the stick up fairly well, and with the fall of the fourth wicket for 150, Service were eleven ahead of Law. The Inglewood-New Plymouth match resulted in a very exciting finish, the home team winning by five runs. Inglewood's last wicket fell to the tune of 20 runs, W. Matthews—the last of his side to don the pads —pulling the game out of the fire. He contributed 12 runs before he was caught by Okey. New Plymouth batted first, compiling 112 runs. About half of their total was contributed by Arden, who batted from the fall of the first wicket, which fell for 13 runs, until the last man on his side had been disposed of. He played good cricket, and carried his bat for 04 runs. Mason (13 runs) failed to strike form, Harding made 15, and the rest of the team were an inglorious procession. Five of the Inglewood men made double figures. E. Marsh andPullen opened, and their partnership was- productive of 27 runs. Kinsella came in at the fall of the first wicket, and made 2, but Harkness, who succeeded him, made a bit of a stand with 15 runs. Scores:—
