THE GAS COMPANY'S BILL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, November 9. Mr. Carmichael announced that no action of the Gas Company in dismissing men nor statements calculated to intrude the affairs of the Gasmen's Union would be allowed to affect the Bill now before Parliament. WIFE DESERTION. Sydney, November 9. In the Assembly, Mr. Holman introduced a Bill providing for wider and more stringent inter-state action in dealing with wife deserters. One proviso is that offenders under arrest will be compelled to work for their own maintenance, the balance of their pay going to satisfy orders against them. Cruelly treated or neglected wives will be allowed to live apart from their husbands, who will be compelled to maintain them and their children.
THE FEDERAL REFERENDA. Melbourne. November 0. The new Referenda Bill provides that electors will vote separately on each question. The proposals will not be put in the si) ape of one on each question, as at the last election. An important addition seeks for Federal jurisdiction over unemployment.
