HOMING.

The New Plymouth East End Flying Club have, during the past week, under somewhat unfavorable circumstances, flown three races for old birds, the first event being a flock race from Aramoho, a distance of 83 miles. A strong northwesterly, with heavy showers, prevented fast times being recorded, the winner registering a velocity of BG9 yards per minute. The placed birds were: H. W. Shirley's Iris. 21ir. 48min., 1; 0. Hodges' loyal Flush,'2hr. 49min. 50sec., 2; F. R. James' No. 555, 2hr. 50min. 25sec, 3; W. Bransgroves' No. 153, 2hr. 51min. 15 sec, 4. The second race was flown from Auckland on Saturday last, and resulted in "a bolt from the blue," as the winner easily outdistanced all opposition, in spite of the strong head wind prevailing, and recorded a good velocity for such a day, registering 1070 yards per minute. Eleven lofts were represented, forwarding 34 birds, which were kindly liberated by Mr. H. Cowsill, of Auckland. The race was declared as follows: W. Bransgroves' Monarch, shr. omin., 1; 11. W. Shirley's Compass, Chr., 2; H. J. Moverley's Royal Salute, 6hr. 2min., 3; D. Forrest's Gold Lassie, Ghr. 2'/omin., 4. The third race was flown from Palmerston North, and was confined to yearlings. A south-westerly wind enabled the birds to home comfortably, and a velocity of 1089 yards was maintained by the "winner. Forty-nine birds from the lofts of eleven members participated in the event, and the result was recorded, as follows: H. W. Shirley's Report, 3hr. 30min., 1; D. Forrest's Promise, 3hr. 31 min. 50see., 2; 11. Moverley's No. 85, 3hr. 32min. 40sec, 3; F. James' Twenty, 3hr. 33min. 15sec, 4. The next event to be decided by the Club will be an interval race from Palin erston North.
