ANGLING.
Fishing in Taranaki this past week has, on account of the inclemency of the weather, been quite out of the question. The fishing season has opened very successfully in the Eotorua district, especially as far as the Eotorua district is concerned. The trout in the Rotorua' lakes are generally in better condition] than last year (says the Herald). During the week-end a party consisting of RearAdmiral Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Pharazyn, and Miss Ross landed 24 very fine specimens from Lake Rotorua. Messrs Pepper and McCauley, of Rotorua, made the biggest catch—4o—all in good condition The average weight of the fish is not so large this Tear, but the trout appear to be in much better "fighting" form. Anglers who have made the Lower Waikato their first stream for the season state that the season there has opened more auspiciously than ever before. Hie baskets were not large, but each fislierman has reported some success, so there is evidence that the stocking of the river i has been o( great service.
