THE WAIHI STRIKE.
FURTHER DISORDER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Waihi, Friday. The silent tactics of the unemployed and their womenfolk towards the workers was very short-lived. The strain of the silence was too great, and the crowd once more found voice when the day shift came off yesterday afternoon, and again when the workers' went on this morning. On each occasion they "booed" and yelled with great vigour, 'in the outskirts of the town the police took a firm stand, and in different localities the crowds in the vicinity of workers' homes were dispersed, the mounted and foot police effectually breaking up the demonstrations. Commissioner Cullen arrived here by last night's express. It i 6 understood from the management of the Waihi mine that only sixty more miners will be required at the 'mine this year. Probably these will be available during the next fortnight. ARBITRATIONISTS MORE CONFIDENT. Waihi, Last Night. The men. numbering about 250, when coming oft' shift this afternoon, marched down the mine road into'the main street. An open passage way was made for them and as they passed along one section indulged in "booing" while others cheered. At the bottom of the street the men mounted the brakes and were driven home. Hitherto the brakes were driven on to the mine property, where the men embarked.
