POLITICAL NOTES.
LOANS TO LOCAL BODIES. To show how the money distributed by the State lending departments has been allocated among the various classes of local bodies, Sir Joseph Ward has secured a return showing that up till March 1, 1010, public bodies- took advantage of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1008, as follows: —River boards £75,540; drainage boards, £84,770; harbor boards, £1338; county councils, £1,002,892; town boards, £27,148; road boards, £200,/23; borough councils, £740,250 —a total of £2,849,075. Since March 1, 1910, to October 19, 1912, the following business has been done under the State Guaranteed Advances Act, 1909:—Amounts finally approved and amounts actually paid: River boards, £2S3O, £2330-; drainage boards, £48,050, £40,510; harbor boards, £123,750. £45,750; county councils, £065,430, £425,820.
