THE CHIEF FEATURES. By Telegraph—Cwn Correspondent. Wellington, Last Night. The Supplementary Estimates were brought down by Governor's message in the House at 9 o'clock to-night. The chief features are as under:—' The sum of £297 is voted to Mrs. ft E. Parker, in respect of an' accident causing the death of her husband while discharging his duties as telegraph linesman. The sum of £250 is voted as a c6ntribution towards the cost of the law library for judges at Wellington, and £SOO is put forward as a grant to the Solicitor-General, to cover the expenses of his visit to England in, connection with the Webster claims. In the Department of Internal Affairs the Under-Secretary, who received £550 a year, receives an increase of £6®. The chief clerk goes up from £3lO to £335, and the accountant from £290 to £3OO. The Government Statistician (£305) gets an increase of £2O, and the clerk and deputy-registrar has,.his salary raised'from £330 to £350, The registrar of birth# at Wellington has his salary raised from £275 to £335. The director of the Dominion Museum receives an increase of £25 a year. The sum of £6OO is set apart for printing the report and evidence -of "the Education Commissioner and there is an annuity to Lady Steward for services rendered by her* husband, Sir Win. Jukes Steward, £l5O. Expenses in connection with the Trade of the Empire Commission, £1000; expenses in connection with the visit of the New Zealand Cadetß to Canada, £175; expenses of Minis.ter of Finance on his visit to London, £1000; grant to private secretary accompanying Minister of Finance to London, £450; grant to Sir William Hall-Jones, to cover return travelling expenses, £400; grant to the Hon. T. Mackenzie to cover travelling expenses while proceeding to London to assume the office of High Commissioner, £500; grant to Swimming Association, £300; preparatory work in connection with bringing the Public Service Act into operation, £1000; expenses in connection with the visit of the Canadian Cadets, £2oo. The sum of £IOO is voted for railway tickets for Territorials and members of rifle clubs attending .rifle meetings. Under the Customs Department appears the item of £2OO for travelling allowances and expenses of 'enquiry agent and commercial expert, and £IOO for the initial expenses of establishing an office in London. Another item is £IOO for machinery and plant for oilboring and refinery purposes, The sum of £4OO is set down as the expenses of the Cost of Living Commission. For the steam service to San Francisco a subsidy of £3250 is proposed, and for the New Xcalaiid-Vancotiver service a subsidy of £BOOO. In the Education Department, the In-spector-General gets a rise of salary from £775 to i£800; the Secretary of Education's salary, '£625, is increased by £25, and a similar rise is given to the as-sistant-Inspector-General, who goes up from £575 to £6OO. In the Public Works Department the salaries of the under-secretary, assistant-under-secretary, electrical engineer and superintending engineer go up by £25 in each case, and the chief clerk gets an increase of £ls. It is proposed to vote £IOOO for grants to technical schools, and £SOO for university colleges. For drillsheds, mobilisation stores, gun-sheds and barrack-rooms it is proposed to vote £SOOO.
