The Meteorological Office issued the following weather summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:—Summary: A barometric depression has developed southward of Cook Strait to-day. Variable winds fcave been experienced, with misty and cloudy weather generally. Showers and misty rain are reported in many parts of the Dominion: Forecast: Present indications are for northerly and westerly .winds, changing to strong southerlies and Bouth-easterlies after about sixteen • tours in most parts of the country. Rain is probable generally, with rivers . high and some sriow on the higher levels in the south. A further fall is anticipated, but' the barometer will probably rise everywhere after from sixteen to twenty hours.
