ENTERTAINMENTS.

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. The usual mid-week change of programme will be shown this evening, and I the new selection is said to contain one film at least that will prove a veritable sensation in picture form. "The Ship of Lions" is the title given this film, and a ship of lions it undoubtedly is, as no less than twenty full-grown lions are reloaded in full view of the audience, aSod these animals play a most important ■ part in the dramatic climax. Another picture sure of a popular reception in "Muggins V.C." or "The Defence of Khuma Hospital," a realistic and stirring war drama, where the scenes are laid in India during a native uprising. A pleasing feature about this picture is that it is an English production, and can rank in every way with the American Alms'. Amongst the other pictures are "The Gaumont Graphic," "Seascapes Around Venice," and "The Funeral of Sir Geo. White." There are also the usual number of dramatic and comedy pictures. THEATRE ROYAL PICTURES. There will be no pictures in the Theatre Royal to-night or to-morrow night owing to the hall being 1 otherwise engaged. On Friday night the pictures again occupy the Theatre, when a complete new selection of pictures will bo screened. "THE GEISHA." To-night's performance of the "Geisha" will commence at 7.50 o'clock. To-mor-row afternoon's matinee is largely for the delectation of the younger generation, to whom the humorous antics of Wun-Hi should especially appeal. There is much in the "Geisha" to amuse the small folk, and in this connection too much cannot be said of the charming ballet dances, the songs and the choruses. The ibox plan for the matinee ia now open, and the 2b seats can be reserved. A large number of patrons have already secured seats, and there are indications that there will be a big mh at the last moment.
