Advices from Archangel, which are not confirmed, report that the steamer Bkoka, with Sjedoff's polar expedition,, has been wrecked. A BATTLESHIP ACCIDENT. New York, November 3. Two bluejackets arc dead and four were scalded by a boiler blowing out on the battleship Vermont, in Hampton Roads. The disaster is believed to bo due to the water in the boiler running low.
LI HUNG CHANG'S DIARY. London November 3.
In Li Hung Chang's diary he States that Bismarck told him that the time was coming when" the Germans would dominate Europe. England realised that a conflict with a Power nearly her equal would mean England's undoing. Bismarck added: "I hate those boasting Englanders."
THE BELFAST RIOTS. London November 3.
'The Crown entered a nolle prosequi against 'the men arrested for the July disturbances in Belfast, but they were rearrested on a magistrate's warrant.
The Crown solicitor demanded that the case should be heard by the magistrate instead of eight justices, declaring that the bench was packed. The police, acting on the Crown's instruction, refused to produce the prisoners, and the hearing was adjourned.
A COLLISION AT SEA. London November 3,
The Norwegian steamer Noreugia colI lided with the ship Glenlui near Cape Hatteras, and was forced to anchor in the teeth of a 45-niile per hour gale. The steamer sprung a leak in two holds. One hold is flooded, and the vessel is in a bad way. Two battleships were called to her assistance by wireless telegraphy.

Five hundred drivers of motor lorries and motor cars have responded to the War Office appeal to form a civilian corps in London.
PROPOSED STRIKE OF BAKERS. London November 3.
The bakers are arranging to take a ballot as to a strike before Christmas on the subject of wages and hours.

Dalgety and Company's annual report shows a'profit of £274,155. A dividend of 8 per cent .is declared, £fiO,OOO carried to the reserve, £40.000 written down on premises, £IO,OOO devoted to staff benevolent fund, and £84,155 carried forward.

The State Government was negotiating for a direct service to Hull during the fruit season, but failed, owing to the available space having been secured by private persons.
