Bates published the following weather summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:-TSummarv: Cloudy and : changeable weather prevailed on Saturday and Sundav, but rain fell in many Marts on Sunday night, when a cyclonio system developed, and is now centred uouthward of Cook Strait. Strong west-1 «rlies prevaUed in the north, and easterlies in the south. Forecast: Present indications are for cloudy and misty wea- . ther, with heavy rain in parts, with the *'' livers rising. Snow is probable on the liigher leveb in the south. High west- ' erly winds are probable northwards of farewell Spit and Castlepoint, and south•erlies and south-easterlies elsewhere. The barometer is due to rise temporarily in the southern districts, but will fall
