Hemp.—Firm; January-March £34 15s. Jute.—November-December £2O 10s. Rubber, 4s 3y 2 d. Linseed oil, £3O. Cotton.—November-December G.37d. Wheat.—The demand is slow and cargoes show a lower tendency, 38s 9d is asked for South Australian FebruaryMarch, 39s (id for Australian January." The wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,370,000 quarters, for the Continent 2.175,000 quarters; Atlantic shipments 405,000 quarters, Pacific 05,000 quarters. The total shipments to Europe are 1,345,000 quarters, including Argentine 72,000 quarters, Russia 2.00,000 quarters. Danube 171,000 quarters, India 118,000 quarters, Australasia 33,000 quarters. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The following is the High Commissioner's cablegram under date London, November 2 (quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):—
Mutton—The market- is quiet but steady on account of the moderate supply. Canterbury 4i/ 2 d, North Island 4i4d, River Plate 4d, Australian 3%d, English ewes 4d. Lambs.—The market is weater. though not actually lower. Canterbury 5%d, other than Canterbury 5y 4 i. Beef—The market'is very dull. The supply exceeds the demand! New Zealand hinds 3%d, New Zealand fores 2M>d. Butter.—The market is weakening, with signs of a decline. There is less demand than the supply, which is plentiful. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. Danish 1305,. Siberian 1995, Australian 119s, Argentine 119s. Cheese.—The market is unsettled. Prices are irregular; the supply of English is large. Canadian, white 03s, coloured 645.
Hemp—The market is strong and advanced. Spot New Zealand good-fair grade £33; fair current Manila £34 10s, a forward shipment brought about the same price.. The output from Manila for the week was 31,000 bales.
The following are the River Plate shipments received during October, 1912: London, 12,323 mutton, 20,548 lamb; Liverpool, 113,040 mutton, 18,789 lamb; Cardiff, 2000 mutton, nil lamb; Newcastle 8000 mutton, nil lamb; totals, 247,073 mutton, 39,327 lamb. The totals for Ootober, 1911. were 246,320 mutton irni 86,719 lamb.
