The Dunedin correspondent of the Lyttelton Times states that an appreciable rise in the value of hides was the feature of the recent auctions at Dunedin. The sale was one of the keenest ever held in the city, mainly owing to the outside market having improved, also to the comparatively short offerings of the previous week. The advance was from y 4 d to y 2 d per lb all round on hides, and Id advance 011 calfskins. Three lots of hides brought lOd per lb, and one lot lfly 2 d, a figure only once before realised in the Dunedin market, and that was for one hide some time ago. Eighty-one selected black oppos*um skins fetched the high price of ten shillings each.
