The battleship Marlborough, which was launched at Devonport to-day, makes the twentieth ship of the Dreadnought class of which the British Navy is now in possession. NICKEL STEEL BATTERY. EDISON'S GREAT INVENTION. London, October 23. The nickel-steel storage battery, on which Mr. Edison has been at work for ten years, is completed at last. It is described as a perfect invention, and the general belief is that it is destined to revolutionise certain phases ol transportation. The battery, in the production of which the famous inventor spent not less than £600,000, is now being operated successfully on special trains running between New York and Long Beach. In the trials as far as they have gone everything has worked most smoothly.

' An interesting exhibit of synthetic meat is now being shown in the Strand. Meat produced by this process can be either roasted or boiled, and is declared to possess twice as much nourishment as the ordinary article. Beef can be produced at just half what it usually costs.
