A "CORNER" IN EGGS.
To the Editor. Sir, —Do you think it is a legitimate practice for the Taranaki Egg Circle to withhold large quantites of eggs from the market, and so keep the comparatively high prices up? This practice appears to me to be in accord with the actions of the much-abused American trusts. And then the Circle is talking of shipping large quantities away. It would appear to me, a struggling householder, that a larger demand would be created locally if the price were lowered a little, The shippers would be lucky if they netted Od or lOd a dozen in the Old Country, and the cost of packing, etc., would bring" their profits much lower than could be obtained locally if the price were more reasonable.—l am, etc., STRUGGLED
