HAGERTY. DEFEATS MAXWELL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. The drill shed, which is seated for 1800 people, had every seat occupied by spectators of the Eagerty (Timaru) v. Maxwell (Ilawera) fight of 15 rounds, for a £SO purse, and many were turned away. Hagerty won easily on points from the first round. Maxwell fought pluekily, and took a lot of punishment. He was nearly blinded before the close. Th» onlookers thought that Uagerty could have finished the fight half-way through. In the preliminary amateur bout McGrath (Timaru) v. North (Dunedin) six three-minute rounds, McGrath got the verdict, hut this was the occasion for (some dissent.
