BRITAIN AND GERMANY.
ANGLO-GERMAN FRIENDSHIP. By Cable —Pnss Association —Copyright. London, October 30. The Anglo-German friendship conference has opened at the Guildhall. Sir Frank Lascelles and Count von Leyden are being joint presidents.
Mr. Ernest Schuster said that there must be much misunderstanding in both countries, particularly in England, when men Like Lord Roberts affirmed that war ■was inevitable. The Kaiser and the German nation abhorred the idea of war for territorial gain. The Evening Standard says that Lord Roberts deserved Sir Edward Grey's chilling rebuke, as Lord Roberts' enthusiasm sometimes carried him beyond prudence and good sense. His statements were harmful to the cause he had at heart, especially when prudent people ■were endeavoring to establish better relations.
