MAGISTRATE'S COURT. (From our own correspondent.) Before Mr. Croolce, S.M., at the Waitara Magistrate's Court yesterday, judgment by default with costs was given in the cases of W. Jury v. Geo. Smith, claim £i 4s; same v. W. Yard ley, ..claim £3 i)s Sd; Ilatriek and Co. v. .1. Sta<'poole, claim £0 4s 3d; W. Free v. Preston, claim £l7. In the case of Hatrick and Co. v. Symons and Co.. claim £ls 9s Id, judgment was given for 9s Id and costs, the £ls having been since paid. E. Harding was ordered to pay W. Lonergan £3 19s within one week 'or in default six days' imprisonment, and Gilbert A. H. Stephens to the same plaintiff £8 Is (id with the option of nine days' imprisonment.
A complicated case, C. E. Gaustad (Mr. Roy) v. J. Coleman (Mr. Stead), claim £l3 Is for noli delivery of gravel occupied nearly two hours, judgment going for the plaintiff for £ll 15s fid with costs. For failing to attend military drill E D. Spencer, E. D. Spencer, E.'D. Alexander and E. Brown were each fined 5t and costs, Harold J. Smith for the same offence being fined 10s and costs. His conscience would not, he said, allow him to drill.
On his own application a prohibition order was issued against a local resident, who has frequently looked on the amber fluid too long and often. He first asked that it should not come in force until after November sth (Guy FawkeVi Day) so as to enable him to celebrate the occasion. afterwards pleading for just one more dnv to taper off. His Worship was inexorable.
