HIGHER WAGES
FOR PRINTING MACHINISTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Arbitration Court to-day delivered its aw ( ard in connection with the letterpress printers and machinists award. It stipulates that work in the cities and larger towns shall not exceed 48 hours weekly, and night shifts must-hot exceed 8 hours each. Journeymen letterpress machinists in these places are awarded a minimum of £3 5s weekly, and in smaller places £2 15s; night shift men get 5s extra weekly. Employers are not bound to pay for holidays, but no deductions can be made from wages, except through a worker's sickness or default; employers to Ihave deseretion in the management and arrangement of work and machines. TV holidays are New Year's Day, Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, i King's Birthday. Labor Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and for a machinist'printing newspapers, Christmas Day and Good Friday. Work on Christinas Day. Good Friday and Sundays to count double time, and'other holidays time and a half. Apprentices are to be paid 10s a week the first year, 15s the second, 20s the third, 25s' the fourth, HOs the fifth. 40s the sixth, and overtime (id per hour the first year, 9d the next three years, Is the fifth "and sixth years. The proportion of apprentices to workers is one to three,, or fraction of three. Provision is made for under rate workers. Preference to unionists is to be given. The award expires on October 15, 1915.
