In the final round —thirty-six holes—of the eighteenth annual tournament for the amateur'and- professional championships of the United States, at Wheaton, Illinois, on September !), Mr Jerome 1). Travers, of Montclair, boat Mr Charles Evans, junr., of Edgewaver, by 7 up ami 0 to play. At the end of the morning round Evans was one up, but Travers showed remarkable form in the afternoon He did eleven holes in 41 strokes —five strokes better than bogey—and finished the match on the twelfth green. His golf in the second round was considered the best ever seen in the championship. Mr Jerome Travers is twenty-five years .old, and was born in New York. lie secured file Metropolitan championship in 190G and 1007. and the United Stales championship in 1007 and 1908, so that this is his third victory in the latter eTent.
