The English Lawn Tennis Journal, the official paper of the English Association, says unless Norman Brookes, as sole selector, has a surprise in store, the Australian team as playing will again be Brookes, Dunlop, and Heath, and continues: "Were the services of Wilding available, we should not feel sanguine as to the success of the British Isles team; but under existing conditions they appear to have a good sporting chance of recapturing the trophy which Brookes and Wilding won at Wimbledon in 1907. In many ways this would be a fine thing for the competition, as next year, with the contest played on this side, we should doubtless once more welcome the presence of American players, and look with confidence to the entry of France, and probably that of Germany and South Africa, The game would enjoy a record year, and Wimbledon a record boom, especially if Australasia were among the challenger?." A. H. Lowe defeated Parke in the final of the North of England Championship •I—4, fi— i. repeating two former results. The winner kept Parke going from side to side; but the latter scored with many brilliant drives when running full speed. The/winner ecored outright frequently against Parke's weak second service. Parke and Charlton won the doubles, and Parke and Mrs. Larcombe the mixed. Tuckey beat Eric Pockley at Southampton. He stood close in for his American service, and made nice little drop shots that brought Pockley racing in But the Pockley we knew would nevei wait to be dragged in. He came in of his own liking.
