A ROTORUA INCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Rotorua, Last Night. . Tho Crown Lands Commissioner to-day offered the leases of educational endowments, on a 21 years' lease with perpetual right of renewal at revaluation. The sections immediately opposite the railway, unimproved, realised an annual rental'of £307 5s for 3>/; acres, the highest prices being £45 and £4O for quarter acre sections. The upset of the former was £B, and of the latter £ls. Bidding for a section opposite the railway station was very brisk, and at £4O tho commissioner received a £5 bid upon which he instantly closed. One of the bidders called out, "Why don't you look in this direction? There were bids here." Afterwards he approached the commissioner's table and said something unheard by the public. The commissioner followed the bidder to his seat, and said heatedly, "You said I was squared. You must withdraw' that." The other replied: "I will not withdraw. I told you it was my bid, and you laughed at me." The commissioner ordered the man to leave the building, but the latter refused.
