The commander and several officers were killed. Federal reinforcemnets have been despatched. A cablegram on September 26 stated— Jroops have been sent to Santa Catherina to suppress a fanatical movement led by a self-styled monk, who is urging revolt and declaring that a monarchy has "been proclaimed in Northern Brazil.
