THE WAIHI SENSATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Waihi, Yesterday. A n-.an named Robert Manning, arrested yesterday for assault arising out of the revolver incident in the train at Paeroa on Monday last, appeared in Court this morning. He was remanded to appear at the Paeroa Court on October 30. A CHARGE OF BIGAMY. Auckland, Yesterday. Eleanor Eileen Christian pleaded guilty to charges of bigamy and issuing a valueless cheque. She was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. She was married, at Christmas, 1895, to Herbert Christian, her maiden name being Nellie Emmeline Deerlove. She lived with-her husband from time to time, there being three children by the marriage. Posing as a widow, she married Robert John McDonald at Auckland on October 5. Subsequently she issued a valueless cheque. Police enquiries into her antecedents led to the discovery of the bigamous marriage. Accused said she really cared for McDonald, and wished to clear the way for Christian to get a divorce.
A DRUNKEN QUARREL. Christchurch, Friday. An open penknife was used in a quarrel between two men and a woman at Sydenham yesterday, and as the .result James Madder was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with having wounded Mary Donovan and George Boyce. He was remanded till Tuesday. Donovan was convicted of vagrancy and sent to the Salvation Army Home, and Boyce charged with drunkenness and remanded till Tuesday. It is alleged that Boyce and Madder quarrelled, and the 'latter attacked Boyce with the knife, and the woman interfered.
