A VALUATION QUESTION.
THE BLACKBALL MINE. By Telegraph—Preen Association. (Jreymoutk, Weduesday. Tho Grey Assessment Court sat yesterday afternoon in a case of interest to local bodies. .It was an objection, to valuation of the Blackball Coal Company's property. The County Council objected on the grounds that the valuation waft too low. The .present valuation was £35,000, and the local bodies' systnu of estimating the capital value placed tho figures at £IOO,OOO. The council contended that all the gross profits, such as the owners' profits (royalties), and the company's (leasees) profits should be taken into consideration, besides the net profits, for purposes of valuation for county rates of the capital value. After & lengthy hearing the court raised the valuation to £01,115, the increase, £15,. 833, being under the heading of coal, tho value of which was raised from £18,770 to £33,303 unimproved values.
