THE MOKAU ENQUIRY.

MINISTERS EXAMINED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. At thc Mokau Land Inquiry to-day the Prime Minister was called as a 'witness. Petitioner (Joshua Jones) asked whether in the opinion of witness, the Or-der-in-Council did not iAperil hie leasehold interests.

Mr Massey replied that he could not say. If he recollected aright the leasehold interests were disposed of prior to the issue of the Order-in-Council. He had stated that the Jones case should occupy the attention of the Government. Mr Herries was also called. He said that in Ms opinion Jones was quite out of the matter. At the time of the issue of the Order-in-Council, the leases had been sold by the Flower estate ,and petitioner's legal claims were entirely extinct. He thought the Order-in-Council only affected the Natives.
