A London cablegram reports the death of Mr Robert Barr, the well-known novelist. It is officially announced that Sir Conyitgham (Jreene lias been appointed Ambassador at Tokio, A Brisbane cablegram reports the death of Mr E. •). Finch, formerly of the Bank of New South Wales in New Zealand. The death is reported of Father William King, of the Redemptorist Monastery, Ballarat. Father King was wellknown in New Zealand. In the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon a resolution of appreciation of the services rendered to the dominion by the late T. S. Weston was carried unanimously. A resolution of sympathy with Mrs. Buchler was yesterday passed by the Education Board in connection with the death of her husband, who was headmaster of the Te Kiri School. Miss Eraser, who has accepted the position of lady principal of the proposed Presbyterian Ladie.s ' College in Ifawke's Bay, has arrived in New Zealand, and is at present at Havelock North. A London cablegram states that Mr. A. Spicer, Chairman of the Marconi Contract Committee, and Mr. Charles Roberts, have been appointed a committee to enquire into the Putumayo atrocities.

A Sydney cablegram states that Dr. Robert Robinson, of Manchester, lias been appointed professor of organic and applied chemistry, and Dr. Anstruther Lawson, of Clasgow, professor of botany, at Sydney University. After nineteen years with the Auckland Harbor Board, 18 of which ho has been harbor-master and dock-master, Captain A. Duder, harbor-master am] chief pilot, has handed in his resignation 011 grounds of ill-health.—Press Association. The marriage of Nurse Eva R. Treeby, of the Wellington Nurses' Home, and daughter of the late Mr Treeby and "Mrs Treeby, of New Plynion(T). to Mr W. J. Taylor, son of Mr Taylor. Clive. Hawke's Bay, took place at St Mark's Church, Wellington, on Thursday hi-.st. The marriage ceremony, which was of a private nature, was performed by Rev. Mr Askew. The bride, who was attended by her sister. Miss (!. Treeby, as bridesmaid, was given away by Mr B. L. Coble, her brother-in-law, Mr". W. C. Fleming fcting the best man. Mr and Mrs Taylor left immediately after the ceremony by the Remuera for South America, their new home, Mr Taylor bavins received an appointment as wool expert to a Buenos Ayreg firm.
